Heads Up: Tyler Stout's "Reservoir Dogs" Movie Poster

No surprise here, Tyler Stout has created yet another Stout masterpiece. The man's already done two stunning posters for Inglourious Basterds and Kill Bill, and has now completed the Tarantino hat-trick with his latest release. Per usual, the detail is utterly mind-boggling and fully deserving of our undying love and respect. Check 'em out below.

Stout's Reservoir Dogs prints will be available on Thursday (11/15) at a random time through Mondo. Both posters measure 36" x 24" and are hand numbered. The regular version is limited to an edition of 700 and costs $60, while the bloody variant is limited to 280 and costs $110. It wasn't too long ago that I was praising Budich's The City of Lost Children poster, but damn if the man doesn't continue to create some of the prettiest film-inspired artwork around! Joshua Budich's "Brutally Cool" poster has me convinced that he needs to do an Inglourious Basterds print (and on the double). I mean, checkout that Aldo stubble and swastika-carving blade - it's a thing of beauty! Budich's ode to Tarantino captures the titular "Cool" with his usual style and aplomb, but more importantly exudes complete badassery - something Tarantino's films do often and without hesitation. Then again, if you're placing Jules Winnfield (played by Samuel L. Jackson) at the forefront of your design, you're guaranteed at least an 11 out of 10 on the Bad Mofo scale (not to be confused with a Chromatic scale). And while "Brutally Cool" may not be the most colorful work in Joshua's arsenal, the use of color is wholly appropriate and really pops in all the right (and bloody) ways.

Joshua Budich, continuing his Quentin Tarantino-themed movie poster quest, has hit yet another one out of the park. His latest entry being the film that introduced QT to the world, Reservoir Dogs.

If you already have his Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction posters (congratulations by the way) you really have no excuse for not getting this. I'd go as far as to say it's your responsibility as an art collector and fan of modern film to own this print. Upon first laying my eyes on Budich's artwork I noticed, and was immediately impressed by, the level of detail and shading on each and every face, which give all of the characters a certain amount of depth and realism. With that said, my favorite elements of the print are the gory "Reservoir Dogs" title work, with its gonzo-esque blood spatter, and the iconic scene (complete with severed ear in the lower-right corner) that plays out between Mr. Blonde and police office Marvin Nash near the bottom of the canvas. Just looking at this poster makes me want to listen to Stealers Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle with You." Is that wrong?

Tommy Good is at it again with another fun poster release, this time for the cult classic From Dusk Till Dawn. With only a quick glimpse of the artwork below you can immediately tell that Rhys was the right man for the job with his trademark splatter aesthetic in full effect.

I haven't seen this film in ages, but it's always interesting to go back to From Dusk because we get to see George Clooney in a ridiculous action romp before his name became synomynous with meaningful, thought provoking and important films, oh yeah, and we also got to witness Tarantino chewing up the scenery for a bit too. While this film is probably the least important in Tommy Good's growing film poster collection, at least in terms of From Dusk's place in film history (bet I made a few enemies just now), it's certainly one of their most playful. You've especially got to appreciate the pure ballsy-ness of the over-the-top bloodbath variant - I'm not sure I could think of a better poster for this film.

Joshua Budich's "KILL BILL" Art Print

Joshua Budich is an artist I've been watching for the better part of two years now and with every print he releases he seems to be one-upping himself. His "KILL BILL" print is no exception, and as far as I'm concerned is his best looking poster yet. If you weren't able to get your hands on Tyler Stout's jaw dropping Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair poster then here's your second chance to grab a gorgeous piece of Kill Bill inspired artwork.

The first thing that struck me when I saw this print was just how detailed all of the faces are. Joshua Budich took the beautiful (Uma Thurman) and the wizened (David Carradine) visages of the film's cast and brought them all to life by making every nook, cranny and wrinkle perceptible. In many ways Budich's character profiles reminds me of the incredibly realistic line work that Martin Ansin, one of my favorite poster artists, is so well known for - and in my opinion, that's one of the highest compliments I can give. Budich's layout is also deserving of praise, because it manages to balance the abundant (characters standing in front of, behind, beside, and diagonal to other characters) with the minimalist (a pair of shoes against a white background, a simple title in a conservative font - pretty much the opposite of Stout's poster) while also maintaining a consistent tone. It's a beautiful poster and I'm really hoping we'll get to see a lot more movie related prints from Joshua in the near future.

Of the 75 prints initially available, 35 were sold (and consequently sold out) through Spoke Art's "Quentin vs. Coen" art show, and the remaining 40 (plus a few APs) are being sold tomorrow (4/12) at a random time through Budich's online store. Joshua's "KILL BILL" six-color screen print measures 24" x 36", and is limited to an edition of 75. It probably wouldn't hurt to sign up for his mailing list in the meantime and I'd be sure to keep at least one window to his storefront open and a finger on the F5 key for good measure. If Kill Bill isn't your thing, fear not, he's still got some mini prints of his "Save Ferris" poster available too!

I wouldn't be doing my poster nerd duties if I didn't tell you about Tyler Stout's insane Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair posters, now would I? In honor of the recently premiered (in the US at least) and restored Quentin Tarantino revenge epic, Tyler Stout, a giant in the poster world, has created yet another one of his exquisitely detailed masterpieces. This one is sure to sell out within seconds.

The yellow, gold and red inks work perfectly here, because not only does it immediately convey the film's retro Asian aesthetic, but they make the image explode visually, like your eyes are seeing different levels of heat (yellow, red and white). I've also got to give it up to Mondo for creating a variant that is unique and actually serves a purpose, instead of just changing the inks. I'd be very interested to feel the difference between their usual poster stock and the "rice paper" poster stock of the variant. Did I mention how awesome it is that they changed all of the English to Japanese? I think I can honestly say this is one of their finest variants ever.
