Poster Per Diem: David Kloc's "MacReady When You Are" Art Print

If you visit this site with any regularity, you already know I tend to write reviews for film and television inspired prints that are either currently on sale or are about to go on sale. And while I'll still be pouring the majority of my efforts into those sorts of posts, my daily "Poster Per Diem" feature will focus on awesome prints that have since sold out, never existed in the first place (AKA concept posters) or just bear mentioning. In other words: this is my chance to say, "I never got a chance, for whatever reason, to write about you on this here website, but I think you're really purty and I want to let the world know." Or something like that. Oh, and Per diem is latin for "per day" or "each day."

"MacReady When You Are" Art Print
David Kloc
13" x 17" - Paper / 12" x 16" - Image (Giclée) - Numbered
$40 - Limited to 30
Inspired By: The Thing

What started out as a must own painting recently became a must own print and is somehow still available (as of this writing) through Ltd. Art Gallery's website for $40. I've seen a few The Thing prints cleverly use MacReady's head in my time, but Kloc's poster takes the cake. This is seriously one of craziest, most awesome prints I've seen all year. The giclée measures 13" x 17" and is limited to an edition of 30. To learn more about artist David Kloc, head over to davekloc.com. And if you'd like to keep up with Ltd. Gallery's latest offerings, be sure to sign up for their newsletter and follow @ltdartgallery on Twitter.

Heads Up: Laurent Durieux's Universal Monsters Movie Posters

If you've kept up with the comings and goings of the movie poster community, you will have no doubt heard about one of the coolest shows to ever be exhibited. And wouldn't you know it, the cracker jacks in Austin who kick started this whole poster movement thing are behind it. I'm talking about Mondo's Universal Monsters show, and boy have I got some great news for you. Laurent Durieux's classic monster movie prints will be available through Mondo at a random time later today. Say, what? Yes, yes, you heard me correctly! (Just an FYI, that was the "great news" I teased earlier.) Check these beautiful prints below.

The Wolf Man Movie Poster
Laurent Durieux
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$50 - Limited to 380

The Mummy Movie Poster
Laurent Durieux
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$50 - Limited to 400

Frankenstein Movie Poster
Laurent Durieux
21" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$50 - Limited to 375

Dracula Movie Poster
Laurent Durieux
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$50 - Limited to 350

Creature from the Black Lagoon Movie Poster
Laurent Durieux
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$50 - Limited to 475

I'm torn between Laurent's Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy, and The Wolf Man, but I'm ultimately leaning towards Karloff's Imhotep. To see more of the artist's work, be sure to visit his Flickr page. And for all drop related info, follow @mondonews on Twitter. One more thing: the Universal Classic Monsters Blu-ray collection is awesome! Go buy it!

Heads Up: Fernando Fro Reza's "Time Bandits" Movie Poster

Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits is one of those films that a lot of us grew up with as children and enjoyed immensely, then we saw the movie as adults ... and it somehow got even weirder and better. Friend of Posterocalypse artist Fernando Fro Reza has created a great looking print inspired by one of Gilliam's most openly playful pictures and I, for one, couldn't be more pleased. Fernando's artwork clearly draws inspiration from Time Bandit's adventurous tone and cleverly implements several of the film's many gorgeous set pieces to form the visage of David Warner's Evil Genius.

Time Bandits Movie Poster
Fernando Fro Reza
18" x 24" (Giclée) - Signed and Numbered
$55 - Limited to 100

Here's what Fernando had to say about his design (taken from ubercoolstuff.com):
"When Über Cool Stuff contacted me about following up our Brazil collaboration I was really excited. We have a mutual love for Terry Gilliam, and it meant another shot at commemorating one of my favorite directors. Time Bandits is a hard movie to encompass because of its huge scope. The characters move through these beautiful surreal landscapes and settings. The movie has a kind of dream logic to it that transitions you from scene to scene. My favorite example is the giant emerging from the sea. Visually that scene, along with David Warner’s crazy H.R. Giger-inspired headpiece, make up the elements of the print, and I hoped to capture the eclectic bizarre beautiful imagery that set the movie apart."
Fro Reza's Time Bandits poster is currently available through ubercoolstuff.com for $55. The print measures 18" x 24" and is limited to an edition of 100. To learn more about the artist, check out frodesignco.com and follow @frodesignco on Twitter.

Write Up: Mondo's Remaining NYCC Movie Posters

I'm blown away by how many posters Mondo commissions. Will it ever end? And if so, how on Earth do we stop it from ending?! Never mind, never mind. I'm overreacting, because if Thursday's massive drop suggests anything at all, it's that, no, Mondo will forever be our top tier movie print provider and will continue to feed our seemingly endless hunger for cinematic wall candy. The following artwork will be available at a random time through mondotees.com.

Shaun of the Dead Movie Poster (Regular)
Jock
36" x 24" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$45 - Limited to 400

Shaun of the Dead Movie Poster (Ed Variant)
Jock
36" x 24" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$75 - Limited to 175

If you're not a fan of Shaun of the Dead, then I'm not a fan of you. Alright, alright. That came off as a little harsh. I guess we can still be buds, just not best buds. Not ever. The film is, after all, my all-time favorite zom com. True, the zomedy sub-genre is not a heavily populated neighborhood, but Shaun clearly reigns high above all other contenders. Imagine my excitement (with just a tinge of apprehension) when I first heard Mondo had released a poster celebrating such a beloved movie. Cue me running to the nearest computer and googling "Mondo Shaun of the Dead." That's when I fell in love. For my money, nobody does chaos and carnage like Jock. His illustrations don't sit comfortably on the page, they explode, and there's a good chance someone's going to lose an eye. If, like me, you're always happy to get more Shaun in your life, I'd highly recommend picking up either the regular or variant (I'm partial to the regular) version of Jock's Shaun of the Dead poster tomorrow through Mondo. Visit 4twenty.co.uk to see more of the artist's work and be sure to follow him on Twitter @jock4twenty.

Phantasm Movie Poster
Phantom City Creative
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$45 - Limited to 280

Every time a Phantom City Creative poster gets released, my week gets a little better, and if memory serves, an angel gets its wings ... or in this case, gets its wings ripped off by the Tall Man's minions via an inter-dimensional mirror. Either way, my week just got more awesome. Not only was PCC's print inspired by the cult phenomenon Phantasm (cannot wait for John Dies at the End), the Toronto based studio created an absolutely gorgeous work of art, effectively one-upping their brilliant The Burning poster. Also, you've got to give it up to anyone who can properly illustrate and convey the menacing terror and awkwardness that is Angus Scrimm's Tall Man. Yes, Phantom City Creative's Phantasm poster will almost surely give you nightmares, but whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, right? (I'm pretty sure there's a point in there somewhere.) PCC's Phantasm print will be available tomorrow through Mondo at a random time for $45. To learn more about Phantom City, head over to phantomcitycreative.com, check out their store, and follow @phantomcitycrtv.

City of the Living Dead Movie Poster
Randy Ortiz
12" x 36" (Movie Poster) - Numbered
$35 - Limited to 125

My knowledge of Fulci is a pretty slim. I've seen Don't Torture a Duckling, Zombie, and The House by the Cemetery. That's 3 films out of the 56 movies he directed, meaning I've never seen City of the Living Dead and won't have much to offer in terms of the poster's inspiration. I do, however, have some thoughts on Randy's artwork. In short: I like it. It reminds me of his recently released Bloodsport print in that it's grounded by a simple black background and focuses on a disembodied face, though there are a few more elements at play here than in what he put together for Skuzzles. Based on a quick synopsis of the film, which describes a clergyman's suicide as the catalyst that opens a doorway to hell, it appears Ortiz has cleverly made the portal to the world above double as the white in a priest's clerical collar. Well played. The hangman's noose is a nice touch too. Randy Ortiz's City of the Living Dead print will be available through Mondo later today at a random time. The poster measures 12" x 36" and is limited to an edition of 125. Follow @damnthedesign on Twitter and direct your browser to damnthedesign.com to learn more about Mr. Ortiz.

Friday the 13th Part III Movie Poster
Jay Shaw
18" x 24" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$35 - Limited to 175

At last we come to Jay Shaw's stab at Friday the 13th Part III. There's a real intensity to this poster and I think it's almost entirely because of those unrelenting, bulging peepers. I imagine if you placed Shaw's Friday the 13th Part III, Ortiz's City of the Living Dead, and Phantom City Creative's Phantasm poster on each wall in a triangular room, whatever entered said room would immediately burst into demonic flames due to their combined ocular power. Those are some evil eyes, folks! Much like the masked Voorhees, Jay's design is not clean, nor symmetrical. Shaw's approach here is as gritty as Jason's machete is sharp, and, for that reason, would make the the perfect addition to any Camp Crystal Lake reunion. As a quick aside, can someone please go ahead and change out the artwork that's currently on Part III's IMDb page or at least swap it out for a higher res version? Good grief. Jay Shaw's excellent Friday the 13th Part III movie poster will be available through Mondo for $35. To learn more about the artist formerly known as Iron Jaiden, be sure to visit kingdomofnonsense.com and follow @tweetofnonsense on Twitter.

As is always the case, be sure to follow @mondonews for the exact drop time. Good night / morning and good luck!

Write Up: The Dude Designs' "Video Nasty" Art Print

I've got a ton of respect for the folks at Poster Collective. Like me, they love movie posters. So much so, the founding trio felt the need to create a website dedicated to their existence. But unlike me, they went one step further and started working with artists and commissioning art. It's cool enough that they're consistently publishing fantastic content, but they're also shaping and contributing to the underground movie poster movement, which is something I'm in awe of. Case in point: Tom Hodge's "Video Nasty."

"Video Nasty" Art Print
Tom Hodge (AKA The Dude Designs)
18" x 24" (Giclée) - Numbered
$45 - Limited to 150
Inspired By: Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Child's Play
For those of us who weren't born in the UK -- like me, for example -- I thought it might be helpful to provide a little context and background on the the term "video nasty." As I understand it, "video nasty" was an expression used by the British press to decry all that was wrong right with horror movies on home video throughout the 80s and 90s. What started as a derogatory moniker, seems to have been reappropriated by many a right-thinking horror fan and is now a battle cry of sorts in celebration of the schlocky, the gory, and the obscenely violent. In other words: "video nasty" is good, "video nasty" is great. And while you don't necessarily need any additional info about the term or its history to enjoy this beautifully illustrated walk down memory lane, I'd highly recommend checking out the comprehensive Q&A with The Dude Designs at postercollective.com where much is revealed about the print and its inspiration. Tom Hodge, the man behind this ode to things that go stab in the night, has already crafted a bunch of memorable movie posters / artwork (They Live Blu-ray art, Hobo with a Shotgun and The Innkeepers posters) and seems to have no problem tapping into that "this flick is going to shock the ever living hell out of you" terror / excitement we all secretly felt when walking through the rogues gallery that was the "Horror" section at our local video rental store when VHS ruled the world. And for that we thank him.

The Dude Designs' "Video Nasty" print will be available today at 10 AM Eastern (7 AM Pacific) through Poster Collective's site for $45. The artwork measures 18" x 24" and is limited to an edition of 150. If you need any more reason to pull the trigger, this tidbit is for you: a small portion of the profits from every poster sold will go to Keep A Breast (a nonprofit breast cancer organization). To learn more about artist Tom Hodge, be sure to check out his super informative blog and follow him on Twitter @the_dudedesigns. You can also follow the mad ramblings of the Poster Collective crew by adding @PosterPeople to your feed. Happy hunting!

Poster Per Diem: Nathan Thomas Milliner's "The Burning 2" Movie Poster

The Burning 2 Movie Poster
Nathan Thomas Milliner
18" x 24" (Giclée) - Numbered
$35 - Limited to 100

Remember that time in The Burning 2 when Cropsey was chasing Jamie Lee Curtis, gardening shears in hand, trying to kill her? I mean really trying to cut her up bad. Oh yeah, and I think Ernest Borgnine ran the summer camp where it all took place. You remember that, right? And if memory serves, the film played briefly during the summer of 82, but only really found success as a cult classic years later. Wait, wait. Never mind. I'm fairly positive I just made all that stuff up based off of the information included in the image above. You see, the twisted mind behind Strange Kids Club, a site you should probably visit immediately, recently announced a limited poster series that celebrates some of his favorite lesser known horror movie sequels (and by "lesser known," I mean "non-existant.") Now you've got it! The above print, created by artist Nathan Thomas Milliner, is a loving "what if" commissioned by a truly devoted horror fan and is currently available for purchase for $35. Head over strangekidsclub.com to get yours now. And to see more of Milliner's terror inspired art, stop everything you're doing and visit rebelrouserart.com. You'll be glad you did!

Heads Up: Skuzzle's "Teen Wolf" and "Bloodsport" Movie Posters

I meant to talk about the following three posters before the big move, but naively underestimated the amount of work it takes to pack a one bedroom apartment and move its contents 330 miles North. Thankfully, I'm (sort of) set up at my new locale and loaded to the gills with Bayer Back & Body, in possession of an Adderall-like focus, and intent on delving into exactly what makes Skuzzles' latest offerings so bloody fantastic. Let's take a look at the evidence, shall we?

Teen Wolf Movie Poster (Regular)
Ghoulish Gary Pullin
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$40 - Limited to 165

Teen Wolf Movie Poster (Variant)
Ghoulish Gary Pullin
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$60 - Limited to 75

As you may already know, I'm a big, big fan of Ghoulish Gary Pullin. And, if like me, you're looking at the above, I think it's safe to say he's done the Michael J. Fox starring cinematic slice of 1980s life justice ... hirsute, bristly, lupine justice. There's a lot to love about Pullin's delightful taken on Teen Wolf, but my favorite touch is something you probably didn't immediately notice. I'm talking about the ingenious use of basketballs to suggest the varied lunar phases above the film's title. It's not a mind-shattering addition by any means, but it speaks volumes about the artist's attention to detail, as it's clear the guy behind this print gave a damn and then some about his design and the film. A regular and variant version of Gary's Teen Wolf poster, both measuring 24" x 36", are currently available through skuzzles.com. To learn about the talented man behind this artwork, head over to ghoulishgary.com and follow @ghoulishgary.

Bloodsport Movie Poster
Randy Ortiz
18" x 24" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$35 - Limited to 175

Not content to leave the 80s be, Skuzzles also recently released an officially licensed Bloodsport print by artist Randy Ortiz. Unlike the jam-packed Teen Wolf movie posters, Randy's Bloodsport artwork has a simple and singular focus: Jean-Claude Van Damme's bloodied but determined visage. While I wouldn't have minded seeing a spinning kick or two, I've got to admit, there's something really intimidating and altogether badass about the design's stripped down approach. This brings back warm (if hazy) memories of watching Showtime as a kid. (Yay for children watching uber-violent uber-cheesy action flicks without their parents' knowledge!) Randy Ortiz's Bloodsport print is currently available through the Skuzzles storefront for $35. To see more of the artist's work, be sure to visit damnthedesign.com and follow @damnthedesign on Twitter.

If you like what you see above, or hell, even if you don't, I highly recommend checking out skuzzles.com, signing up for the mailing list, and following them on Twitter @skuzzlescan. This may just be the Aspirin talking, but I'm pretty sure the Skuzzles storefront has healing properties.

I'm Back...Again

The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. As it turns out, moving your entire life from one city to another is INCREDIBLY exhausting, expensive, and can be physically painful without the aid of a moving company. With that said, I officially have Internet, a place to sit and type, and a brand new bean-grinding coffee machine (yay wedding registry!) that's sure to fuel hours of poster-induced rants and raves. See you soon!

Heads Up: Jon Smith's "You Vil Lose" and "Sexual Tyrannosaurus" Art Prints

I've already written about my favorite posters from Spoke Art's recent "Mucho Machismo" show, but I neglected to mention some really fantastic artwork by the dude who curated the whole damn testosterone-filled affair. I'm of course talking about artist Jon Smith. Fear not, that lapse in judgement is about to be emended, as Spoke Art recently released two more Smith prints that brazenly extol all the virile virtues that come to mind when one thinks about men doing manly things (like boxing and sexing up dinosaurs.)

"You Vil Lose" Art Print
Jon Smith
12" x 18" (Screen Print) - Signed and Numbered
$40 - Limited to 200
Inspired By: Rocky IV

We've got a triumphant Drago, a bloodied Apollo Creed, and everyone's favorite referee / plumber calling the fatal end to this bout by way of what I can only assume is the Wingdings character for "KO by Death." It's tragic, it's epic, it's 8-bit, it's Rocky IV meets Punch-Out!! Mostly, though, it's just awesome. Smith's "You Vil Lose" is currently available through Spoke Art's store for $40. The poster measures 12" x 18" and is limited to an edition of 200.

"Sexual Tyrannosaurus" Art Print
Jon Smith
12" x 18" - Signed and Numbered
$40 - Limited to 200
Inspired By: Predator

I think Jon may have cracked the code with this one. I'm not sure how, or what it means, but I know it's great and that we're all indebted to him for its creation. One part Ralph Steadman-esque Gonzo fever dream, one part Predator quote taken to its most extreme and illogical conclusion, and one part Jesse Ventura humping on a lady T. Rex, all blended together and screen printed for our viewing pleasure. Jon Smith's "Sexual Tyrannosaurus" poster is currently available through Spoke Art. The signed and numbered print measures 12" x 18", is limited to an edition of 200 and costs $40.

To learn more about the man behind this madness, visit smithbellcraft.com and follow him on Twitter @jon_smith. He's also got a bunch of prints available through Nakatomi, as well as his own storefront. If you'd like to stay up to date on all things Spoke Art (and really, who wouldn't), be sure to join their mailing list and follow them on Twitter @spoke_art.

Heads Up: Mondo's "Jodorowsky's Dune," "Beyond the Black Rainbow" and "Wrong" Movie Posters

I quit my job, got me a wife, had me a honeymoon, and will be moving to the Bay Area within the next two weeks. To describe all of this as a big change would be an understatement. It's exciting, frightening, fun, terrifying, and all of those other emotions I forgot to mention. With that said, I still have one thing in my life that's not going anywhere: Posterocalypse! This week I'll mostly be playing catch up (since I missed quite a bit this past month), so apologies in advance for the things you've already seen and thanks for sticking around!

The following were initially released in Austin during Fantastic Fest, and wow, they're absolutely jaw dropping. For those unable to attend the coolest film festival in the United States, you'll have a chance to pick up the Jodorowsky's Dune, Beyond the Black Rainbow and Wrong posters tomorrow (10/4) at a random time through Mondo's website. And don't forget to follow @mondonews on Twitter for the official drop notice.

Jodorowsky's Dune Movie Poster
Kilian Eng
24" x 36" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$45 - Limited to 290

Beyond the Black Rainbow Movie Poster
Jay Shaw
18" x 24" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$35 - Limited to 135

Wrong Movie Poster
Jay Shaw
18" x 24" (Screen Print) - Numbered
$35 - Limited to 190

To learn more about artist Kilian Eng, who also created an amazing Dune poster celebrating David Lynch's oddity, be sure to visit his Tumblr and Facebook page. And to see more of Jay Shaw's work, head over to kingdomofnonsense.com and follow @tweetofnonsense. Finally, if you haven't already, go watch Beyond the Black Rainbow. It's a stellar tone poem (with the tone being trippy 1970s science fiction) and features a killer synth soundtrack.

Preview: Bottleneck Gallery's "Can't Beat Em, Join Em" Zombie Art Show

Remember Bottleneck Gallery? The folks that just hosted the premium cable-inspired "More Than You Imagined" art show? Well, it seems they're not terribly interested in resting on their laurels and are about to premiere a new exhibition titled, "Can't Beat Em, Join Em: The Zombie Show." Once again, Bottleneck head honcho Joe Bouganim has curated what looks to be an awesome collection of art and artists, this time celebrating our putrified and decaying brother from another mother six feet under. For those of you on the East Coast, "Can't Beat Em, Join Em" will be opening on October 5th (Friday) at 7 PM at 60 Broadway in Brooklyn. Any inventory that hasn't already sold out will be available through Bottleneck's website on Saturday for what I'm sure will be some very reasonable prices. While we still have a few more days before the show is up and running walking slowly with a limp murmuring "Brains...,"as every zombie worth its weight in yummy grey matter is expected to do, I've got a few sneak peeks that are sure to excite (or at the very least create an insatiable hunger for human flesh.)

"Methodology Of Dispatching The Dead" Art Print
